Ask. Draw. Reflect.

About the Guanyin Oracle

In temples across the Chinese-speaking world, visitors kneel before Guanyin, the bodhisattva of compassion, hold a question in mind and shake a bamboo cylinder until a single numbered stick falls out. Two crescent moon blocks are then cast to ask whether the lot is truly theirs. The number leads to one of a hundred classical poems, each tied to a famous story.

Here the lot is chosen by your device’s cryptographic random generator, uniformly across all 100 lots, at the moment you shake; the animation only reveals it. The poems are the traditional temple text. The English renderings, story retellings and guidance are our own editorial writing.
